Mobile appProduct designVideoBackend

Started in Kyiv in 2018. Instead of a feed and endless messaging — a photo, a short recorded video, and answers to the app’s questions. A mutual hello opens the next step: one person proposes a place and a time, the other accepts. Then the app gets out of the way.

Challenge

A dating app earns from a person not leaving it: the feed, the swipes, the boosts, the messaging that goes nowhere. Attention becomes the product, and a meeting becomes the thing that gets in its way. What had to be built was the opposite: a product that has done its job at the moment it is closed.

Approach

  • 1 A recorded video instead of messaging: the voice and the face are visible before the meeting, not after
  • 2 The chat opens 60 minutes before the meeting and closes 60 after — enough for logistics, capped at 200 characters
  • 3 A match lives 48 hours: if it never reaches a place and a time, it lapses on its own, with no reminders and no nudging
  • 4 Photos and videos are checked before they are shown, so nothing borrowed or accidental reaches anyone else
  • 5 No feed, no swipe loop, no paid promotion — there is nowhere to drag a person to

Solution

A React Native app on a Spring Boot and GraphQL backend; separate services validate photos and videos and merge two recordings into a shared meet-video.
